HBTC Review: Camacho Liberty Series 2021

In 2002, Camacho debuted a new cigar called Liberty. It was originally available in multiple sizes, and became a yearly release. Over the years the Liberty Series became a single-size release, and year after year is anticipated by fans of the brand. This 2021 release is the only Churchill of all the single-size releases in the Liberty Series. Only 2,550 boxes (20-count) were produced. Here is Matt’s review of this year’s Liberty Series from Camacho.

The Camacho Liberty Series 2021 is only available in this size.

Prologue
The 2021 Liberty Series is a beautiful Churchill size with a dark brown color and clean look. The wrapper has a nice toothy surface and bit of oil sheen. Each cigar is presented in an individual coffin-style box with bright USA colors. The wrapper of the cigar has mild aromas of cedar and cocoa. The aromas from the foot of the cigar are rich with notes of raisin, cocoa, and dry grass. The cold draw is in line with those same notes from the foot.

Act I
The flavor profile starts out with some mild pepper, dark cocoa, and a sweet note that reminds me of dried fruit. As the burn line moves along, hints of toasted bread and a little bit of espresso. There is very little spice early on, except in the retrohale. The aromas through the nose are a bit spicy and leathery.

Act II
The cigar progresses into a few more flavors toward the center. Notes of roasted nuts join the cocoa for a very nice combination. Some hints of vanilla bean, clove, and leather are present, albeit fleeting. The retrohale remains a bit spicy, but not too strong by any means.

Act III
During the final section of the cigar I definitely get a bit more strength, but that comes along with a very appealing natural tobacco sweetness, likely from some ligero. The front-line flavors are still dark cocoa, espresso, and some roasted nuts. There are also a few sweet notes like dark sugar, dry fruit and baking spice. The retrohale is still peppery with some hints of leather.

Epilogue
Overall, after smoking three of these cigars for the review, I think this is the best iteration of the Liberty Series in many years. I found it to be complex in flavor and near perfect in burn performance. Each cigar was extremely consistent and put out plenty of smoke that gave plenty of flavor and really great aromas. I am excited to see how these age, and can wholeheartedly recommend this cigar.
